Garban (KY)

TB, DK B/, G, FOALED FEBRUARY 22, 2018

( CROSS TRAFFIC - MIDNIGHT SEARCH, BY VYING VICTOR )

Garban is a sweet gelding who was sadly returned to our program recently when his owner could not afford his care any longer. Garban is sound, barefoot and extremely sweet and friendly. He has been restarted after his racing career and we plan to hop on him again to ensure he "remembers the ropes".

Garban returned slightly underweight and sun-bleached from being field boarded. However, he is in excellent health and was recently seen by a veterinarian for fresh vaccines, coggins and a physical exam. Garban had an unexpected laceration with his adopter that occurred in the field. It has since healed and is just a small scar. The veterinarian was pleased with its healing upon his examination. Garban is UTD on deworming, vaccines, coggins, and is barefoot with a recent hoof trim. He is scheduled to have his teeth floated within the next week.

This gelding will turn JET BLACK this fall when he grows a new coat in. He's absolutely stunning, don't miss out on this diamond who just went through a rough patch- he's going to be an awesome horse and turn heads wherever he goes!

Lineage Breakdown - Find out how and why this horse is suited for the disciplines we suggest!

Here’s a focused rundown on Garban’s lineage and what it typically contributes in sport:

Sire line: Cross Traffic → Unbridled’s Song → Unbridled (Fappiano)

This branch is a go-to in sport for scope, stride, and a generous gallop. Unbridled/Fappiano descendants are well represented in eventing and jumping because they tend to offer an easy, ground-covering canter, good balance, and trainable minds.

Cross Traffic himself brings the Unbridled’s Song type—often uphill with a long step—which translates to:

  • Hunter/Jumper & Equitation: step to make the lines, smooth rhythm, and the look for the ring.

  • Eventing & Fox Hunting: efficient gallop and stamina for tracks and country, typically steady enough to settle in a group.

  • Dressage (foundational to mid-levels): scopey canter and elasticity give you a good base for correct work.

  •

Note: Cross Traffic is out of Stop Traffic (by Cure the Blues), a high-class racemare. That damside often adds substance, durability, and a straightforward temperament, which are all welcome in a sport restart.

Dam line: Midnight Search → Vying Victor (by Flying Paster)

The Flying Paster California family is known for tough, athletic, forward horses with a big engine and good bone. You’ll often see bold, ground-eating gallops and plenty of try, which pair well with the Fappiano influence.

This leans toward:

  • Eventing & Fox Hunting: boldness, stamina, and a good cruising speed across terrain.

  • Jumpers: quick, handy types with enough grit to keep answering the questions.

  • Hunters/All-Around: rideable, forward movers that stay honest to the fences.

Second dam influence: Chief’s Crown (Danzig line)

Chief’s Crown (by Danzig) brings a classic sport stamp: balance, a quick hind leg, and athletic coordination. Danzig influence is common in jumpers and eventers worldwide and often helps with:

  • Jumping efforts: better hock articulation and a tidy front end.

  • Dressage quality: balance and engagement that make lateral work and transitions cleaner.

What this cross suggests for Garban

Stacking Fappiano/Unbridled scope and brain with Flying Paster toughness and a shot of Danzig/Chief’s Crown balance yields a versatile sport profile.

  • Hunter/Jumper & Equitation (natural step, rhythm, presence),

  • Eventing (engine, gallop, boldness),

  • Fox Hunting (stamina, sensible mind in company),

  • Dressage foundation with potential to progress as strength develops.
